I love allegory:
We ate at a Japanese restaurant called "Sen" in Sag Harbor, and I remembered in Hiyao Miyazaki's film: "Spirited Away": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spirited_Away
Chihiro was renamed "Sen" when she went to work in the Ghost Bathhouse.
I had to look up Sen, which means "a thousand"... Chihiro was 10 years old in the story.
So the meaning to me was how going to the bath-house was a growing-up period for Chihiro. Her life experience went from that of a 10 year old to that of "A Thousand" in a "Sen"-se. (Sense).
